BEAUFORT, NC – The Beaufort Board of Commissioners has decided to scrap its initial proposal for the future management of the town’s docks. This decision comes after significant public outcry over the lack of transparency in the process.
Residents expressed frustration over the board’s closed-door meetings to discuss who would take over the dock operations. To address these concerns, the board voted to begin the process anew. They will extend the current lease agreement and form a new committee to gather community input.
The original plan involved a partnership with Safe-Harbor, but the board has now decided to terminate this agreement and reopen the bidding process. Officials claim that the closed-door meetings were necessary to prevent competitors from gaining an unfair advantage.
