BEAUFORT, NC – The Town of Beaufort is mourning the loss of former Mayor Richard Stanley, who served the community from 2007 to 2017.

Stanley’s tenure was marked by significant progress, including the annexation of Front Street Village, the expansion of town limits, the construction of a new sewer treatment plant, and the vital bridge connecting Beaufort and Morehead City. In recognition of his exceptional service, Governor Roy Cooper bestowed upon Stanley the Order of the Long Pine Leaf at the conclusion of his mayoral term.

Prior to his role as mayor, Stanley served as an assistant district attorney in Wilmington and established a successful law practice. He also held the position of town attorney for Emerald Isle and other North Carolina municipalities and counties.
