Eastern North Carolina is bracing for significant river flooding early next week. Several rivers in the region are expected to crest near or above major flood stage.
The Tar River is projected to reach major flood stage by Tuesday, with a potential crest of 20 feet. This would be one of the river’s top 10 highest crests on record.
The Neuse River in Kinston is also on track for a potentially historic crest, nearing major flood stage by Tuesday.
The Northeast Cape Fear River near Chinquapin could reach major flood stage by Sunday.
While the Trent River is expected to stay below moderate flood stage, the Cashie and Pamlico Rivers are not anticipated to cause major flooding issues at this time.
Meteorologists warn that river levels can be difficult to predict and conditions may change. Residents in flood-prone areas should monitor forecasts closely and be prepared for potential flooding.
