Eastern NC News EXCLUSIVE STORY
NASH COUNTY, NC – Residents of Nash County are facing a growing crisis as a lack of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel threatens public safety. Multiple EMS stations throughout the county have reported staffing shortages, leading to delayed response times and, in some cases, reliance on neighboring counties for emergency coverage.
The issue came to light earlier this year when Bailey Mayor Owen Strickland II expressed deep concern over empty EMS stations during multiple shifts. Since then, reports of staffing shortages have surfaced from other areas of the county, including Mt. Pleasant, West Mount, and Red Oak.
One Red Oak resident, who requested anonymity, described the situation as “very scary.” They expressed frustration over the perceived lack of urgency from county leaders to address the issue.
Many residents attribute the staffing shortage to inadequate pay and benefits compared to neighboring counties. The resignation of Emergency Services Director J.A. “Tony” Cameron in June further fueled concerns about mismanagement of emergency resources.
Eastern NC News reached out to multiple Nash County commissioners for comment but did not receive a response before publication.
This is a developing story, so stay tuned to Eastern NC News for updates.
