ROCKY MOUNT, NC – California-based battery manufacturer Natron Energy is set to invest $1.4 billion in a new facility in Edgecombe County, creating up to 1,062 jobs. The proposed plant, one of the largest economic development projects in eastern North Carolina in recent years, will focus on producing sodium-ion batteries.

State officials approved an incentives package worth up to $56.3 million on Thursday, contingent on the company meeting hiring goals. Edgecombe County is also providing $129.6 million in incentives.

The facility will be located on a 400-acre site between Tarboro and Rocky Mount. The project is expected to significantly boost the state’s clean energy sector.

Natron Energy specializes in sodium-ion batteries, which offer advantages over traditional lithium-ion batteries in terms of cost and sustainability. The company’s decision to locate its new plant in North Carolina underscores the state’s growing reputation as a hub for advanced manufacturing and clean energy technology.
