As the November elections approach, the North Carolina Democratic Party has turned to the courts to challenge ballot eligibility.
In a recently initiated lawsuit, the state Democratic Party claims that the formation of the We The People Party was a strategic maneuver to simplify the process for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to appear on the ballot.
Currently, a party needs 13,865 valid signatures for official recognition, while an independent candidate must gather 83,188 signatures. The North Carolina Board of Elections approved the We The People Party by a 4-1 vote.
This is a developing story. Keep following Eastern NC News for ongoing updates.
