PINK HILL, N.C. – Early Wednesday morning, Lenoir County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a local man on multiple animal cruelty charges. Matthew Neal, owner of East Carolina Retrievers, was taken into custody at 12:30 a.m.
Authorities seized 11 dogs from Neal’s property and charged him with nine counts of felony animal cruelty. He was held on a $45,000 secured bond in Lenoir County and an additional $2,000 bond in Duplin County.
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with animal control units from Lenoir, Craven, and Duplin counties during the investigation and rescue operation.
