Currituck County, NC – A devastating loss has struck the iconic wild horse population of the Outer Banks. Bullwinkle, a rare breed found exclusively in the area, was tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident this weekend.
One of only a few hundred of its kind worldwide, the horse sustained critical injuries in the collision. The Corolla Wild Horse Fund made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize the animal Saturday morning.
Authorities are investigating the incident and have apprehended two suspects. Porter and Rhonda Williamson, both of Virginia, are facing charges of resisting, delaying, and obstructing officers. The pair fled the scene on foot after the collision, according to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and sparked renewed calls for increased safety measures to protect the cherished wild horse population.
