UPDATE: Body of missing fisherman found at Tar River Reservoir in Rocky Mount

Update to original story: On Thursday afternoon, a missing fisherman was found dead close to the Rocky Mount Reservoir. This is a developing story.

Officers were called to the Rocky Mount Reservoir on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at around five o’clock in the evening to look into an abandoned boat that was anchored close to a small island.

The boat is registered to Larry Drake, 70, of Rocky Mount, according to the early results of the investigation.

Drake’s family claims that he went fishing at the reservoir on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m.

Since he left that morning, Drake has not been in contact with anyone.

The island and the waters surrounding the boat were searched by several agencies for several hours before nightfall forced the search to halt at 8:30 p.m.

On Thursday, October 26, 2023, early in the morning, the search teams went back to work.

Drake has not been found as of yet.
