SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. (ENCN) — A high-speed chase spanning multiple counties concluded with the arrest of two individuals on Friday night.
The pursuit began just before 10 p.m. in Sampson County when deputies attempted to stop a white Nissan Maxima heading south on Highway 701. The vehicle then diverted west onto I-40, heading toward Johnston County.
The chase continued into Harnett County before the driver exited at exit 71 and retraced the route back toward Sampson County. Throughout the pursuit, speeds reportedly surpassed 100 mph.
Authorities deployed a stop stick on NC Highway 242, near Spivey’s Corner. Shortly before 10:30 p.m., the suspect’s vehicle struck the device, leading to deflated tires and bringing the chase to an end.
The female driver and her male passenger were taken into custody. Their names have not been disclosed at this time. The entire pursuit lasted approximately 30 minutes.
